Wohoooo! Summer is ready to hit Australia. It’s time to spring ahead. That means it is the time to jump our clocks forward. Its time to say Hello to long days at the beach and balmy evening barbecues!
Every year, on the first Sunday in October when local standard time reaches 2am, most places in Australia change their clocks forward one hour to 3am and that’s the time when daylight saving begins and will goes on till first Sunday in April. This means that sunrise and sunset will be an hour later (on the clock) for six months.
For some people an hour doesn’t sound like much, but for some, daylight saving can bring on fatigue and leave them feeling like they have jet lag. You might feel like you are not getting enough sleep. So, here are some tips for good night sleep during daylight saving period.
- Try to sleep for at least 7 hours each night — more if you are aged under 20.
- Keep your mobile phone or tablet away at least an hour before bed.
- Limit your coffee or other caffeinated drink intake.
- Go for a morning walk as soon as you wake up. This will help to adjust your body internally .
- Eat healthy meals.
On the positive side, you will get longer days which mean more of an opportunity to be outdoors, playing or exercising.
